Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will visit Ayodhya on Friday as part of the 'Kisan Mahayatra' ahead of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections. He will be the first in the Gandhi-Nehru clan to visit the city since the demolition of the Babri Masjid 24 years ago, reported NDTV.
Rahul will reportedly offer his prayers at the famous Hanuman Garhi temple. It is still not confirmed whether he will visit the Ram temple at the Ramjanmbhoomi-Babri Masjid site, which is about a kilometre away.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, Ram Das Verma, president of district Congress committee, Faizabad, said, “Rahul Gandhi will visit Hanuman Garhi temple for darshan at 10 am and meet Mahant Gyan Das. There is no other programme or meeting with anybody else.”
The Congress vice-president will later hold a road show in Faizabad.
On Thursday, he was in Basti where he interacted with farmers and also visited many nearby villages.
Last month, Congress president Sonia Gandhi's visit to Varanasi was cut short after she fell ill. Sonia Gandhi has not visited Ayodhya since 1992.
Congress' perceived soft Hindutva strategy is reportedly being orchestrated by strategist Prashant Kishor to counter BJP's development agenda in Uttar Pradesh.
Kishor has designed the Congress vice president's month-long yatra or tour of the state, where elections will be held early next year.
